I just read this article by Jeré Longman in the New York Times: “Sierra Leone’s Soccer Team Struggles with Stigma Over Ebola Outbreak.” The first line says, “Fans taunt them with chants of ‘Ebola’.”
This seems like a particularly hideous thing to do under the circumstances.
I emailed Hummel, the maker of Sierra Leone’s football jersey, and asked where people could buy Sierra Leone football (soccer) jerseys. It seems to me there should be a run on them as a show of support for the team, which is still trying to play hard–to do something that gives their fellow citizens something to cheer about–in a terribly distressing time.
